
Sumitra started out as an intern at Hoods Inc Productions, while in her first undergraduate year in NUS, majoring in South East Asian Studies.
During her time as an intern, she had experience in numerous fields of work including researching and script supervision and also doubled up as assistant producer for most projects. Aside from the logistical aspect, she has had experience in the creative field.
She co-wrote six episodes for the arts magazine show ‘FRONT’ and also co-wrote and researched the National Day documentary ‘Presidential Art’.
She began writing corporate videos for Apostrophe Films and moved on to focus on documentary writing and research with Oak3 Films. During this time, she worked with broadcasters such as Channel NewsAsia and the Discovery Channel.
At the beginning of 2009, she directed 2 episodes in a kids’ info-ed drama series about conserving marine life, which she also wrote.
In the future she hopes to move into writing and directing exclusively, with a large focus on documentaries.
